Berlin Travel Club: Nils Straatmann talks to Tiny Houses Architect Leonardo Di Chiara

Our host Nils Straatmann talks to architect and engineer Leonardo Di Chiara, who graduated cum laude in Building Engineering and Architecture at the University of Bologna. At the age of 21, he was able to start his career as a designer by securing a placement with Community Tectonics Architects in Knoxville, USA. After completing his studies he relocatedto Berlin, where he become a Board Member of the Tinyhouse University working side by side with architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel. With the support of more than 40 technical sponsors, he developed the architectural project «aVOID» in Italy.This is a prototype «tiny house» on wheels that was showcased at the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the HfG- Archiv in Ulm, the MAXXI in Rome and the 2018 Milan Design Week. He was awarded by the Italian Ministry of Culture of the Berlin Prize 2017, a prestigious recognition to young architects in the field of urban innovation. He is involved in a number of international collaborations with public institutions, companies and private clients in the context of projects and events connected to the field of micro-architecture on wheels, minimal living and itinerary tourism. Since 2018 he starts the collaboration with the Company DIMA Allestimenti directed by Engineer Dimitri Zambernardi with who designs and manufactures prototypes and special vehicles such as trailer kitchens, mobile radio stations, homes on wheels, caravans and so on.
