Tom Belz

One-legged Mountaineer & Mammut Ambassador
"I am Tom Belz, 33 years old. With 8 years I had bone cancer. If one could have believed the "typical course of disease" of my osteosarcoma, you wouldn't read this text from me today. But now, 24 years later, I am amputated to my left hip and show doctors, orthopaedists, critics, physiotherapists, nurses and all those who have ever doubted me that I can make it. It wasn't an easy way but definitely an experience I wouldn't want to miss. When I was 10 years old I decided to wear no prosthesis and still learned to ride a bicycle. For 3 years I played in a football club, taught children how to swim on a voluntary basis and have been playing drums since I was 6 years old. For 7 years now I have been working as a group leader in a day care centre for mentally and severely multiple handicapped people. My life is not as rudimentary as one might think of a young man who only has one leg. It is exactly the opposite! ...

I am Tom Belz aka T O M N A T I V E and my disability is no excuse".

As Brand Ambassador of the outdoor label Mammut Tom wants to motivate with his story not to give up and to explore his own limits again and again. This applies first and foremost to Tom himself. With only one leg and two crutches he successfully climbs the highest mountain in Africa, the Kilimanjaro.
